Los sufijos en inglés con ejemplos

 

Los sufijos en inglés no son tan difíciles una vez que te has familiarizado con ellos. Al igual que los prefijos, los sufijos, te permiten expresarte en inglés con mayor soltura. 

 SUFIJOS PARA FORMAR SUSTANTIVOS:

 -hood

 Normalmente se añade el sufijo -hood a un sustantivo concreto para crear otro sustantivo abstracto. Muchas veces (pero no siempre) se traduce como -dad en español. 

• adult – adulthood (adulto – edad adulta)
• brother – brotherhood (hermano – hermandad)
• child – childhood (niño – infancia)
• false – falsehood (falso – falsedad) 
• father – fatherhood (padre – paternidad)
• likely – likelihood (probable – probabilidad)
• mother – motherhood (madre – maternidad)
• neighbour – neighbourhood (vecino – vecindario)
• parent – parenthood (padre o madre – paternidad) 

-ship 

• citizen – citizenship (ciudadano – ciudadanía)
• friend – friendship (amigo – amistad)
• intern – internship (estudiante en prácticas – período de prácticas)
• leader – leadership (líder – liderazgo)
• relation – relationship (conexión – relación)
• scholar – scholarship (becado – beca) 

-dom

 Este sufijo se añade a los sustantivos para transformarlos en adjetivos. Significa ‘sin’.

• effort – effortless (esfuerzo – fácil)
• fear – fearless (miedo – valiente)

En la gran mayoría de los casos, un adverbio se forma añadiendo -ly a un adjetivo.
